#1 Comparing 2015 & 2017 Bingdao Gushu (冰岛古树)
Feb 24th 2022
It is always fun to closely observe how my teas are changing, or aging, seasonally and yearly. But if you have so many types and vintages of teas in various price range, it is hard to taste each tea as often as you'd like. Bing Dao has been very popular (and expensive) for past few years, and it seems like it is only getting more expensive (sigh). Anyhow, I felt like drinking some Bing Dao, and I thought it would be perfect if I'd get to compare two types of Bing Dao teas. Comparison doesn't mean much as I'm not comparing identical Bing Dao tea of different years. These two Bing Dao gushu teas are completely different except for the fact that both are made out of 100% gushu tea leaves.
2015 Bing Dao gushu was made in Nanpo Village (南迫/남박)
Taste note: woody and strong for first two steeps, then subtle sweetness comes out from the 3rd steep.
2017 Bing Dao gushu (made out of tea leaves from 800 year old tea trees )
Taste note: boasting bright and golden color, this tea was very refreshing and sweet. More than everything, its floral scent and sweetness make you keep smelling your teacup. Enjoyable amount of bitterness remains after a couple of steeps, but lingering sweetness offsets it
We both liked 2017 Bingdao gushu more than that of 2015 Bingdao gushu at this point (taste wise). However, 2015 Bindao has instantly made our body so warm and its warmth continued for a while in the stomach. Can't wait to see how both transform for next few years, if not decades.
